Australian Border Force (Secrecy and Disclosure) Rule 2025

The Australian Border Force (Secrecy and Disclosure) Rule 2025 updates the 2015 Rule to ensure continuity of lawful disclosure of Immigration and Border Protection (IBP) information under the Australian Border Force Act 2015.

The Rule retains existing provisions for disclosure of IBP information for detecting risks and investigating misconduct. It prescribes four new permitted purposes for disclosure, including trade and supply chain regulation and environmental protection.

The Rule allows ten prescribed bodies to receive IBP information, ensuring disclosures are lawful and proportionate, with safeguards for privacy and compliance with human rights obligations.

The Rule takes effect the day after registration, repealing the 2015 Rule in full.
