Starting 1 December 2025, VETASSESS will introduce a series of updates to its processes for professional (non-trade) skills assessments.
Key changes include:
-
A standardised processing timeframe of 7 weeks for skills assessments, reviews, and reassessments, and 12 weeks for appeals.
-
Applicants will be given 28 days to supply any requested additional documents or information; if these are not provided after two reminders, the application may be finalised as “not suitable.”
-
For visa applicants with pending invitations and expiring assessments, there is now an option for urgent processing without an extra fee, upon provision of evidence of the visa invitation.
-
New identity documentation rules require applicants to submit three separate ID documents, including at least one valid government-issued photo ID.
-
Assessment outcome letters have been revised: “positive” outcomes will now be labelled “suitable” and “negative” as “not suitable.” The letters will also include aliases, validity periods, and clearer next-steps guidance.
These changes aim to make the assessment process more predictable and transparent for professionals seeking migration-related skills assessments.
